Is A Basic Web Design Training Course For You?

Try to name one well known business that doesn't successfully promote itself on the web! The development of the internet over the last decade or so has meant that just about every company must have an online presence. A website lets customers know that the company exists, and serves to educate and facilitate them in their buying experience.

Rather than trawling around the shops to do comparisons, growing numbers of customers now search on Yahoo or Google to find what they want.

Increasing The Need

Clearly when you have a growing number of web sites you need a growing number of designers as well.

If this type of work appeals to you, your training can take the form of computer-based home learning at your own pace, or classroom-based teacher instruction with a number of other students.

Don't be tempted to rush into registering on the first course you see - allow yourself time to look around. Assess how each teaching method will fit in with your lifestyle and budget, and of course look at the quality of the training material.

The best training will provide you with some key competencies for the web design industry. However, you should first know the difference between courses for web developers, and courses for web designers.

The job of a web developer is to provide the programming code that makes sure a website can do what it's supposed to do. We're concentrating here on the design side of the industry, for people who want to create attractive and innovative website pages.

If you're innovative and artistic you could well be suited to web design. You'll also find that communication skills are an advantage, as the work requires a good deal of discussion with clients. Most likely your clients will tell you about their ideas for the website they want. You then have to bring those wishes to life, with an interesting, artistic and appropriate site that is easy for the user to find their way around. Naturally, the designer will also look to advise the customer with the benefit of their professional experience and knowledge.

Renowned Training Courses...

You'll find that Adobe packages are used for nearly all web design training these days. They are the most widely recognised in the business today, and knowledge of them will enable students to become Adobe certified. Two of the most useful products to study are Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Suite 4 and Adobe Flash Creative Suite 4. Adobe abbreviate Creative Suite 4 to CS4 - make sure you don't register on a course still teaching CS3. Learning how to use Dreamweaver will enable you to build creative web pages to a professional standard. But to master animations and special effects you'll need to have Flash in there as well. Together you will have the two best design tools available to train in.

...And Commercial Certifications

It's essential whilst doing your course that you prepare a portfolio of some of the designs you've created. This will stand you in good stead at interview. As Web Design is a very subjective discipline, a prospective employer will be most interested in seeing the standard of work that you can do. If it's your intention to become a self-employed Web Designer, then commercial accreditations may be superfluous. If however you are looking to achieve professional status, ensure your training will lead to either Adobe Certified Expert (ACE), or Adobe Certified Professional (ACP).

Offer More Than Most

Don't sell yourself short though by limiting your skills to just the stuff we can see on the screen. To be commercially competitive, we would strongly recommend that you look at training courses that include a range of additional skills. For example it's a good idea to be taught about how CSS and HTML work, in case you have the need to 'debug' sites or streamline them. To understand any level of interactive functionality, you'll also need to have a grasp of extended HTML and PHP programming. Next comes e-commerce - where financial interactions need to happen via the website. And lastly (for now...) there's Search Engine Optimisation, which you'll often hear abbreviated as SEO.

The internet is a crowded place - which is why it's so important to learn the art of featuring highly on Google and co. It doesn't matter how fabulous your websites are, they can't do the job they're designed for if nobody knows where they are.

Dynamically Designed!

Web Design has really taken off with the phenomenal growth of the internet worldwide. Training now to become a part of this industry will prepare you for a dynamic future. As the flexibility of the internet and speed of delivery continues to improve, so too is the way web sites are being built. Resolve to make a change for the better now - by researching how you can make a career in web design and the internet work for you.
